This past weekend we were very fortunate that Hanover College, the town of Hanover, and the city of Madison, Ind., were not hit by one of the many tornadoes in this area. Some of our neighbors were not so fortunate. The nearby towns of Chelsea, Ind. (7 miles away); Nabb, Ind. (16 miles away); Marysville, Ind. (18 miles away); Henryville, Ind. (30 miles away); New Pekin, Ind. (46 miles away); and across the bridge in Milton, Ky., (8 miles away) suffered severe damage and some loss of life. A few of our students come from these areas and were affected by the destruction.
Hanover College wants to help our neighbors and therefore we are mounting a volunteer force to assist with clean-up and support of the families affected.
I know the Hanover community has a big heart and that we are capable of supplying one of the largest manpower forces in the area. Here is an opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of others, at a time when they need help the most.

President?
A campus-wide relief effort is underway, and our students, faculty, and staff are stepping up to be good neighbors. At this time, we cannot coordinate alumni and friends who may wish to join the campus work crew. But you can help! Here are things that we need:
1. The campus work crew will work with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, with whom the college has a long-standing and positive relationship. If you would like to help support our work, please consider donating directly to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. You can donate online here. We may also take small donations of funds to buy tools and supplies, but we are not ready to receive those funds yet. Please stay tuned for more details.
2. We are currently accepting donations of plastic storage tubs, moving boxes, hygiene items (unopened) and cleaning supplies (unopened). You can bring donations to the mail room in the Campus Center from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. or to the Campus Center Lobby from 5-6 p.m. every day this week. These items will be donated to relief shelters in the area.
3. If you are interested in being on a work crew, please call the Volunteer Reception Center at 812-287-0519, 812-287-0522, 812-287-0523 or 812-287-0521. This center is located at 723 Spring St., Jeffersonville, Ind. Affected counties are asking all volunteers to start here so they can place volunteers where they are needed most. We cannot coordinate alumni and friends in our campus work crew, so please consider gathering a group of your own and checking in with the Volunteer Center in Jeffersonville, instead.
4. Please do not write checks to the college for disaster relief. It can be difficult for one non-profit to donate to another, and we will not be able to make your donation tax-deductible. If you'd like to support our efforts, please consider one of the three options above.
Thank you for your willingness to help!
